I'd say our group had a lot of fun working together with each other and making the whole experience better. I loved the being able to eat in between the cooking. The food was simplistic but good and something I can easily recreate at home. This is definitely an experience I'd want to do again and hope that Paolo is my guide! He mentioned that he likes to change the menu often just to make sure he's cooking…”

Work inside a Parisian bakery with a guide such as David, Valentina, or Pierre. In about two hours, you shape baguettes, roll croissants, and make small cakes while learning about flour, yeast, sourdough, and French baking traditions. Expect tastings and baked goods to take home, but not a full recipe-based class.

“The instructor was nice, but we were expecting the class to be given by a French person who had a passion for the culture. We were not taught how to make a baguette or croissant, which is what we paid for - a waste of money! They lacked organization, and it was very uncomfortable to watch how the bakery staff treated our instructor. They reprimanded our instructor in front of us on three occasions, and I felt very uncomfortable and also embarrassed for her. It seemed like our activity annoyed the bakery staff, and we did not feel welcome. I do not recommend this activity.”

At Studio Pâtisserie on Rue de Rome, Chef Leo or Maria guides up to eight people through dough, butter lamination, shaping, and baking. You make croissants and pain au chocolat, then leave with pastries, recipes, and practical skills for baking at home.

“It was a great experience. Most fun I had on this entire trip. Loved it. For future attendees, just so you know, you roll out lots of different rectangles…for butter, lamination, final rollout, cutting of rectangles and triangles etc. write all of those dimensions down. You will need them at home. If you are from the US learn how to convert between metric and English systems for length, weight, and volume (your phone can easily do that.) I suggested the instructor, who is terrific btw, create a YouTube channel and post a video of how he does this.”
